Getting a Visa to Ghana

You can obtain a visa to Ghana through either of the following methods:

  • Applying Outside Ghana
    • Visas can be obtained in advance from any of Ghana’s 56 Diplomatic Missions worldwide.
    • These may be issued for single or multiple entries, with validity periods ranging from 6 months to 5 years.
  • Applying Within Ghana
    • Certain types of visas can be issued upon arrival or within Ghana through the Ghana Immigration Service.
    • These include Transit Visas, Emergency Entry Visas, Visas on Arrival, and Re-Entry Visas.

Visa Requirements

Visa-free access: Citizens of ECOWAS member states, and other International Countries do not require a visa for short stays.

  • Visa on arrival: Nationals from certain countries may be eligible for visa on arrival. Please check with your nearest Ghanaian embassy or high commission.
  • Visa-required countries: All others must apply for a visa in advance through a Ghanaian diplomatic mission.
  • Attendees requiring a visa to attend AIS’25 should apply for a Business Visa.
  • You will need to indicate that you need an invitation letter by filling the request form and we will provide a visa invitation letter.
  • We strongly encourage early applications to allow sufficient time for processing.

Applying for a Visa

  • You can apply online for a Ghana e-Visa, or through the nearest Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate.
  • Required documents typically include:
  • Completed visa application form
  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
  • Return airline ticket
  • Hotel booking or proof of accommodation
  • Visa invitation letter (provided upon request)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • For the e-visa, visit the Ghana Immigration Service website and follow the instructions to complete your application.
  • Ensure you print your visa approval and payment receipt, as these may be required upon arrival.
